Dr. YL Khong holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Canterbury, NZ and did his post-doc at King’s College London. His career spans both academia and industry and he has worked in NZ, UK, US, Japan, Australia and Germany.

　　In academia, he was lecturer at the Institute of Advance Studies, University of Malaya; Associate Professor, Faculty of Applied Science at AIMST; Dean, School of Science and Technology, Wawasan Open University and Professor and Vice Chancellor of KDU University College. In industry, he was Chief Scientist for ShinEtsu Handotai, Engineering Manager for Fuji Electric, Staff Engineer and Materials Engineering Manager for Intel and Director of Global Manufacturing Engineering for First Solar. He has published about 20 peered reviewed and conference papers and has spoken at international meetings.

　　Dr Khong has a passion for scientific education and development of young people. After a brief  period of retirement in mid-2015, he assumed the role of CEO for Tech Dome Penang, the 1st Science Discovery Centre in Penang setup to inspire young people in the areas of science and technology.
